Coral Spawning 2013 Great Barrier Reef
Like to witness this years spectacular coral spawning? Then plan ahead. Two of the main factors determining when coral will spawn is the lunar cycle and water temperature. I will be organizing a trip off Cairns this November.

Great Blooming Barrier Reef
Last Thursday on Thetford Reef, Veteran Diver Stuart Ross and underwater filmmaker Stuart Ireland witness spectacular red tide as it engulfs local Cairns reef. During the second dive, a dark shadow enveloped the reef, as the advancing bloom blocked out the sun. Red tide, or Trichodesmium is a natural occurrence on the Great Barrier Reef, and part of the normal cycle of the reef. Read on for some amazing facts about Trichodesmium! (more…)

Diving conditions in May on Great Barrier Reef
Diving conditions in May on Great Barrier Reef. With fellow photographers Richard Johnston and Zach Friedell to the Great Barrier Reef, we were pleasantly surprised with 10-15m visibility and abundant marine life surrounding the Sunlover Cruises pontoon on Moore Reef. During our 2 dives we spotted 2 turtles, a maori (Napoleon) wrasse, abundant fusiliers, chromis, clown-fish,to name a few. Hard and soft coral was healthy and plentiful, a great dive. Water temperate was 24C, 5-10 kts, surface conditions ideal, with very little swell. (more…)
